Elfyn Evans: Monte Carlo toughest place to start M-Sport WRC career

Elfyn Evans is expecting a baptism of fire when he begins his career as a top-line World Rally Championship driver on next month's Monte Carlo Rally

The 24-year-old Welshman was named as part of M-Sport's full-time 2014 squad earlier this month, having impressed on his WRC debut with the team in Sardinia earlier this year.

He told AUTOSPORT that his first four-wheel drive outing on the Monte Carlo would be a tough one.

"I think Monte Carlo is certainly going to be the toughest event of the year," he said.

"It's important to get some experience but that's easier said than done when you have so many variables on that event."

He will join team-mates Mikko Hirvonen and Robert Kubica in the French Alps for the team's pre-Monte test.

Evans admitted he was still coming to terms with his step up to being a factory driver.

"I still think about the reality of what's going to happen come Monte time... it's hard to picture sometimes," he said.

"It's easy to talk about it and say: 'Oh yeah, World Rally Car next year...' but it's a proper, proper drive and I can't stress how much I'm looking forward to it.

"This is going to put me in the best possible place to learn."
