Calamuchita Service 1: Burns to keep pressure on

Richard Burns (Subaru), second, + 39.7s: "Maybe Colin went for a slightly better tyre. The road was damp, but still very hard. I'm just going to keep it at this pace and keep Colin honest."

The Sapniard has been suffering from severe back pain throughout the rally and was woken up at 2am (local time) last night and was unable to get back to sleep. "I feel the pain and it's definitely worse than it was yesterday. I am on more painkillers this morning, but I'm not 100 percent for sure."

The reigning world champ capitalised on Makinen's misfortune to move up to fourth, despite hitting a stone which knocked his 206 WRC's rear wheel out of line.

"The Finn has been suffering from a driveshaft problem all morning and soldiered on through SS nine and 10, before managing to fix it for SS11, allowing him to claw back some time. Nevertheles, he dropped from fourth overnight, to sixth.
