Burns warns McRae of French switch

Reigning World Rally Champion Richard Burns has warned fellow Briton Colin McRae that he will have to overcome cultural shocks and differences in working practices if decides to leave British-based Ford for French outfit Citroen at the end of the season

Speaking in this week's AUTOSPORT magazine, Burns - the only British driver in the modern era to have driven for a foreign works team - also admits that McRae should not be put off in the longer term by any concerns he might have about dealing with cultural or language problems.

"Moving across to a French team is something that Colin could certainly do," said Burns. "But there can be problems with the cross-cultural aspect of the switch."

Burns moved from Subaru to Peugeot at the end of last year and has first-hand experience on the differences between British-based and French teams.

"If he does move," added the Englishman, "Colin will notice that there are differences in the way teams operate. British teams have learned to improvise more, whereas French teams are more used to having things structured from the ground up."

McRae visited Citroen's headquarters last week and said he was impressed by the team's facilities, but he has yet to receive an official offer from either Citroen or Ford.
