Burns leaves hospital
Peugeot rally star Richard Burns, who lost his chance of a second WRC title when he fainted at the wheel of his road car on Sunday, has been released from hospital and been ordered to rest while doctors wait for test results
The Englishman was admitted to a Newport hospital on Sunday evening after fainting at the wheel while driving to Cardiff with fellow WRC driver Markko Martin. The Ford star had to steer the car onto the hard shoulder, preventing a more serious incident.
Burns was taken to a hospital in Cardiff to undergo a series of tests, but doctors have allowed Burns to rest at his girlfriend's house while he waits for the results.
Freddy Loix, signed to drive for Peugeot in 2004, has been drafted in to replace Burns in what would have been the 2001 world champ's final event for the French team. According to Peugeot team boss Corrado Provera, Loix may have the chance to familiarise himself with the 206 WRC before he tackles his first event for the world champions.
"Thanks to the FIA comprehension of the situation we have been given the possibility of having Freddy test the car for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon after the recce," said Provera. "And this is very good."
