Burns gunning for first Peugeot win
Richard Burns has targeted a desire to beat team-mate Marcus Gronholm as the biggest motivation to score his first rally win for Peugeot before the season is out
The Englishman led the Rally New Zealand before crashing out, paving the way for Gronholm to claim victory and his second World Rally Championship.
But Burns is ready to bounce back on Rally Australia and Rally Great Britain.
"Whatever is said, the motivation to do well in the final two events of the year, Australia and Great Britain, is very much alive," he said. "Marcus will be out to prove that I shouldn't have outpaced him in the previous rallies and I'll be out to claim my first win for Peugeot.
I've won both rallies in the past and am confident that I can repeat my successes! I can guarantee you it will be one hell of a fight."
Burns' co-driver Robert Reid believes Gronholm won't be resting on his laurels since winning the title on the gravel stages around Auckland, ensuring a frantic finish to the year.
"Marcus wants to show he's quicker than Richard so I think it will be an interesting competition in Australia and Rally GB," said the Scot. "The 206 WRC is a tremendous package and obviously there's a driver element, but that's enhanced by the fact that Richard and Marcus are spurring each other on in the best cars.
"I know Colin [McRae] has been quoted as saying he thinks Rally GB will be a straight fight between Richard and Marcus and we'd be happy with that, but you can't be complacent and think that it's a two-horse race - there are several drivers capable of posing a threat."
