Burns aiming to make history

Reigning WRC champion Richard Burns is hoping to make history this weekend by becoming the first Brit ever to win Rally Finland

Only twice in the event's illustrious history has a non-Scandinavian driver triumphed - Carlos Sainz took the honours for Toyota in 1990, while Didier Auriol won in a Lancia Delta Integrale during his record-breaking season of 1992 - but Burns believes his Peugeot 206 will be the car to beat this weekend.

"On paper at least, the package of myself and Peugeot should go well here," he told WRC.com. "It is a rally and a car you can be quite aggressive with. I've not got as much experience as everyone else here - my first Rally Finland was in 1998 - but it's an event I've always enjoyed. Finland is one helluva rally and we've always gone well on high-speed stages. I think I've got a good set of notes here, but there is absolutely no room to relax."

Burns will face stiff competition for the overall win from team-mate, and current championship leader, Marcus Gronholm. The Finn has won his home event for the past two years and after seeing his early season points advantage gradually eroded, he'll be out to make it three-in-a-row.
