Blundell: This makes F1 look tame!
Mark Blundell has admitted that the challenge of going rallying is more than a match for racing in Formula 1
The Briton will drive a works MG ZR Super 1600 car on next week's Rally Great Britain. He has prepared for the event by competing in the Bulldog Rally and the Tempest Stages.
In both events, Blundell has found himself being caught out a type of motorsport he has never experience before. On the Bulldog he put the ZR on its side, and dropped into a ditch on the Tempest stages. On both occasions, he and co-driver Bob McKenzie, a motorsport journalist from the Daily Express, managed to get going again.
"It's been a crash course in rally driving for me over the last few weeks, in more ways than one, but I'm hoping I've made all my rookie errors now and can keep the car on the road for this, the real challenge," said Blundell.
"I don't underestimate the difficulty of the Network Q and from my, very limited, competition experience, I already have tremendous respect for the World Rally boys, as this driving is so 'on the edge'.
"Rallying can make F1 look very tame - when you're going 85 mph and faced with a 180 degree hairpin, a one in four gradient and a near vertical drop on one side, it's hairy stuff!"
