Australian organisers respond to Mosley

The organisers of the Rally Australia have hit back at comments made by FIA president Max Mosley, who told autosport.com yesterday (Thursday) that disputes between the event's staff could lead to it being dropped from this year's World Rally Championship

The acting Clerk of Course of Rally Australia said that an agreement has been reached between the event's senior officials and the event's owners, the Western Australian Tourism Commission.

A WATC statement said that it knew of no sporting or safety issues that would necessitate the event's removal from the WRC calendar. Richard Muirhead, CEO of the WATC, said: "We have noted international comments which appear to have been attributed to Max Mosley, President of the FIA, however the event is listed on the 2003 FIA calendar."

Referring to Mosley's comments about a disagreement between the rally's sporting and commercial staff, acting Clerk of Course Adrian Stafford said: "Despite some difficulties prior to last year's event, we've come to an amicable agreement between WATC and are finalising agreements.

"The local sporting officials and both parties are happy with progress towards this year's event. All the senior officials are now 100 percent behind the event and we are very happy with the new structures within Rally Australia."
