Auriol tests SEAT on gravel

Didier Auriol has been testing on gravel as he prepares for the Rally of Portugal

The SEAT driver, who retired on the 14th stage of the Rally of Monte Carlo with engine trouble, was concentrating on transmission and suspension settings for the Portuguese event.

"This is the second time I have driven the SEAT Cordoba on gravel," said Auriol following last week's test.

"The car is improving all the time, and we still have work to do before I feel completely comfortable.

"In the previous gravel test I saw the potential of the car for the first time and I was quite happy."

Team-mate Toni Gardemeister who finished fourth for the team in Monte Carlo said the SEAT challenger needed further development.

He added: "The car is already much better than it was last year, but it is not one hundred per cent yet.

"It has a lot of potential, and we are making many improvements all the time.

"After this test, and a test just before the rally starts, I'm sure we will have a very competitive car to fight for a top result in Portugal."
