Citroen is confident it can cure the tyre problems which hit Mikko Hirvonen's hopes of a third success Rally Sweden victory this afternoon.
The Finn was in touch with his former Ford team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala as they battled for the lead throughout the opening day of the second round of the World Rally Championship, until the last long stage, where he lost 22 seconds to the fastest time, blaming the loss of studs from his tyre.
"We have to find something with the set-up to help this tomorrow," said Hirvonen. "Maybe we make the car softer, I don't know, but we have to do something. The rest of the day was okay, but when the gravel came in the last stage, there was nothing we could do - the studs went and so did the time."
Citroen technical director Xavier Mestelan Pinon said: "We need to find something for Mikko. The problem is that we can alter the car set-up and make it easier on the tyres, but then this can compromise the stability of the car and is this what we want? We have to find out. But yes, we can find the solution."
