Henning Solberg has had to retire from the first day of the Cyprus Rally before the start after colliding with a road car on the way to the opening stage.
A statement from Solberg's Stobart Ford team said that there were no serious injuries to the occupants of the two cars, but the damage to Solberg's Ford Focus was such that it could not be repaired at the scene.
The accident is a major blow to Solberg after his promising start to the season. A pair of fourth places in the first two rounds had put him fourth in the championship heading to Cyprus, ahead of works Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala.
Matthew Wilson is now Stobart Ford's only representative in Cyprus, at least for day one, as the team's third driver Urmo Aava is not present at this event while he searches for sponsorship to continue his season.
