French tyre manufacturer Michelin has initiated legal proceedings against motorsport's governing body, the FIA, the company announced on Monday.
The French company has made the decision after the FIA chose rivals Pirelli to be the sole supplier to the World Rally Championship from 2008.
Michelin is carrying out legal action because it believes there were "irregularities in the tender process".
"Michelin initiates legal proceedings against the FIA before the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris and requests that the 27 February 2007 decision of the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA granting Pirelli the exclusive supply of tyres for the 2008-2009-2010 World Rally Championships (WRC) be annulled due to irregularities in the tender process," said a Michelin statement.
The FIA said it had no comments at this stage.
Michelin's BFGoodrich currently supplies all the works teams in the WRC.
The Clermont Ferrand-based group withdrew from Formula One at the end of last year.
