Tributes have started to come in for Michael 'Beef' Park, who died today on the Wales Rally GB.
Park, co-driver to Peugeot's Markko Martin, was killed when the pair's Peugeot 307 hit a tree on SS15, the 27.42km stage of Margam. The event was stopped after the accident.
David Lapworth, whose Subaru team employed Martin and Park in the 2001 said: "On behalf of all of us at the Subaru World Rally Team, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Michael's family and loved ones after today's terrible tragedy. Michael was a member of our team in 2001 and as part of the WRC family he remained a close friend to all of us at Subaru. Today's accident is shocking and in the circumstances all the teams and drivers felt unable to continue."
Park worked for former world champion Colin McRae during his early years, being part of his gravel crew. McRae said: "He was one of the championship's real characters and a really genuine person. My co-driver, Nick Grist, has also lost a very close friend."
