14-round WRC expected for 2011

The World Rally Championship is expected to confirm a 14-round schedule for 2011 in today's World Motor Sport Council fax vote

The Monte Carlo Rally is expected to remain on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge schedule and - despite looking into the possibility of the French Alps classic running as a round of both the IRC and WRC - no agreement has been reached with the organisers, the Automobile Club de Monaco.

The 2011 WRC will start in Sweden, as it did this season. The other significant change to the planned calendar will be the continuation of the Jordan Rally on the itinerary, with the Dead Sea-based event's return coming at the expense of Abu Dhabi, which will run as a candidate rally again in 2011 before a potential inclusion - if it meets with the FIA's requirements - in 2012.

The 14 events expected to make up the WRC 2011 are: Rally Sweden, Rally Mexico, Rally Portugal, Jordan Rally, Rally Argentina, Acropolis Rally, Rally Italy, Rally of Turkey, Rally Finland, Rally Germany, Rally Australia, Rally France, Catalunya Rally and Rally GB.

In the absence of Monte Carlo, Rally Poland had been reckoned to be on the verge of stepping in to open the series with its popular Mikolajki event, but Poland will be first reserve for next year, with Rally New Zealand second reserve.
