Nyirad European Rallycross: Davy Jeanney fastest in Saturday heats

Frenchman Davy Jeanney heads the order after day one of round three of the European Rallycross Championship in Hungary

It has been a bittersweet day for the Citroen driver. Second fastest in heat one was followed by fastest of all in heat two to put him on top overnight.

However, engine failure in practice forced his team to change the unit, earning a 15-point penalty.

Alexander Hvall lies second overnight, with top three times in both of the first two heats.

British driver Liam Doran claimed fastest time in heat one with an accomplished drive, and almost certainly would have done the same in heat two, had he not jumped the start of his race, forcing him to take the joker lap on two occasions as punishment.

Petter Solberg set sixth fastest time in the first heat following a close battle with reigning champion Timur Timerzyanov.

Former World Rally champion Solberg led his race in the second heat in commanding fashion, only to spin on the second lap. He finished last, was 10th fastest and sits eighth overnight.

The second heat was littered with attrition. Peter Hedstrom, Andy Scott, Andreas Bakkerud and Stig-Olov Walfridson were all removed from the running following damage sustained in a first-corner pile-up.

Ronny Scheveneels continued his luckless season, ripping two wheels and a heap of bodywork off his Peugeot 207 in the first heat. He was unable to repair it in time for the second.

On top of the Super1600 category is Renault Clio driver Renis Nitiss ahead of Swede Eric Faren. TouringCar is headed by Irish driver Derek Tohill who was fastest in both heats.

Heats three and four take place on Sunday morning with the finals in the afternoon.
