Layout for World Rallycross round at Austin F1 US GP venue revealed

The layout of the World Rallycross Championship track at the Austin Formula 1 United States Grand Prix venue has been revealed

The configuration was unveiled at a press conference on Wednesday, with two-time World RX champion Petter Solberg and GRC title winners Tanner Foust and Scott Speed - who will compete at the circuit as part of the new Americas Rallycross Championship in late September - in attendance.

The rallycross layout's startline will be located on the exit of the Circuit of the Americas' Turn 12 left-hander, and will head towards turn 13 before the circuit heads right onto the first loose-surface section, then rejoining the main circuit between Turns 14 and 15.

The World RX layout then heads back to the infield with a sharp left onto gravel, into a straight which includes the circuit's jump, before a hairpin leads back onto the asphalt and towards Turn 16 in the opposite direction to which the circuit is usually used.

A third unsealed section follows after the layout leaves the circuit at Turn 15, with a fast left-right section leading back to the asphalt, which merges with the startline straight before the completion of the lap.

The joker lap section will run around the outside of the first corner, through Turns 13 and 14 on the usual layout.

"It's always exciting to race somewhere new, but the first World RX of USA at COTA is going to be a particularly special experience," said Solberg.

"The new COTA layout is just the sort of fast and challenging track we love to race on, so fans can be sure of some spectacular action when World RX arrives."

Much like new British World RX host venue Silverstone, the American event will be part of a wider festival including music, action sports and food.

"The new course that has been designed is sure to challenge the drivers and wow the spectators," said Bobby Epstein, chairman of Circuit of the Americas.

"I look forward to their action-packed partnership for years to come."
