Ireland's Derek Tohill in RX Supercar move

Double European Rallycross TouringCar class champion Derek Tohill has announced a move up to the Supercar category for the 2014 season

The Irish driver secured his second European title last weekend at the penultimate round of the championship in Austria.

"We can leave TouringCar proud and happy, but Supercar is the only option now." says Tohill, who will race in TouringCar for the final time this weekend in Germany.

Tohill's Irish team has yet to decide on the precise direction for its Supercar move.

"There are two options for us with regards to what we do in Supercar; either we get a big sponsor and move into an existing team to do the World Rallycross Championship next season, or we will build our own car and develop it in a three to five-year project," he said.

Tohill made his European championship debut in 2008 at the wheel of a Group N Honda Civic, and won the TouringCar title for the first time in '10. Victory in Austria last weekend sealed the 2013 crown.

Tohill's title rival Robin Larsson has also announced that he will race a Kristoffersson Motorsport Supercar at the last round of the Swedish Championship next month with view to competing in the category full time in 2014.
