Villeneuve: qualifying not important

Jacques Villeneuve has admitted that he is not interested in qualifying for this year's Le Mans 24 Hours

The former Formula One world champion is preparing for his debut in the French race, but he will not be in the car when the Peugeot team go for ultimate lap times.

"Frankly, I really don't care about qualifying," Villeneuve told autosport.com.

"It's a long race. It's only important so that you don't have traffic on the first laps of the race, and you don't destroy your windshield, that's about it."

The Canadian added that Nicolas Minassian do the majority of the running in qualifying trim, while the team will use the rest of the time for testing.

"It's important for ego and stuff like that, but I think Nicolas will do the qualifying anyway," he added. "He's got the experience here.

"This is the main test for the night, to see how the tyres evolve. We need to know how many stints we can do at night."

Wednesday evening's qualifying session will be Villeneuve's first opportunity to experience the Le Mans circuit at night time.
