Senna to test ORECA LMP car
Bruno Senna is to test the ORECA team's LMP1 car in the Le Mans Series pre-season test at Paul Ricard today
The GP2 runner-up's Formula One hopes ended for the time being earlier this week when the Brawn team confirmed they had opted for Rubens Barrichello instead of him.
Senna believes driving the Courage-ORECA LC70 is a better option than chasing a reserve driver role with an F1 team given the new testing ban.
"I have proven my racing ability with my results in GP2 but when I get my chance to race in Formula One I want to be able to contribute as much as possible technically," he said.
"With the restrictions in F1 testing now, it is difficult for young drivers to develop in this way but by using my time constructively like this, I believe I can make myself stand out from the crowd."
ORECA boss Hugues de Chaunac clarified that there was no deal with Senna beyond the test at present.
"At the moment this invitation is just for Bruno to join our test which will continue into the night," said de Chaunac.
"It should be a new experience for him and probably the longest test day he will ever do."
Senna will test alongside team regulars Olivier Panis, Nicolas Lapierre, Soheil Ayari and Stephane Ortelli. ORECA have already given tests to World Touring Car champion Yvan Muller and World Rally star Petter Solberg earlier in the winter.
