Porsche junior Muller gets WEC chance as line-up shuffles for Spa

Porsche junior driver Sven Muller will be drafted into the German manufacturer's World Endurance Championship GTE line-up for the Spa round in May

Porsche junior Muller gets WEC chance as line-up shuffles for Spa

The 23-year-old, who raced in the Porsche Supercup and Carrera Cup Germany last year after two seasons of Formula 3 in Europe, has been brought into the factory line-up as part of a reshuffle of the drivers across its WEC and Tudor United SportsCar Championship GT programmes.

Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber will be unable to take up their places in the CORE-run USC squad at Laguna Seca because they will be racing the same weekend in the third Porsche 919 Hybrid at Spa.

Patrick Pilet, who is racing for Porsche in both the WEC and the USC this year, is likely to contest the US race.

A spokesman for Porsche told AUTOSPORT: "Sven will be with us at Spa, most likely in the #92 car [normally shared by Pilet and Frederic Makowiecki].

"Like in the past, we want to integrate our juniors in our factory programmes."

The spokesman said that the rest of the line-up for the four Porsche RSR 911s racing on the first weekend of May could not be confirmed at this stage.

That suggests that Porsche might have to move one or more of its WEC drivers - Makowiecki, Richard Lietz or Michael Christensen - over to the North American programme for that weekend.

Why BMW shouldn't be overlooked on its return to prototypes

OPINION: While the focus has been on the exciting prospect of Ferrari vs Porsche at the Le Mans 24 Hours next year, BMW’s factory return to endurance racing should not be ignored. It won't be at the French classic next year as it focuses efforts on the IMSA SportsCar Championship, but could be a dark horse in 2024 when it returns to La Sarthe with the crack WRT squad
