Pescarolo Collects Le Mans Award

Henri Pescarolo's fine Le Mans meeting continued to improve this morning as he was presented with one of two Spirit of Le Mans awards to add to the performance of his cars claiming first and second places on the grid

The veteran of a record 33 Le Mans 24 Hours as a driver, taking victory in four, and now owner of the team that is most likely to bring glory to France this weekend, was suitably delighted to be so honoured, especially when he was described by the President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest as being almost synonymous with the event to the extent "that it's hard to know whether it should be Pescarolo and Le Mans or Le Mans and Pescarolo."

Pescarolo responded by saying: "It's an honour to receive this award as it's the most prestigious race in the world. Sadly, though, it's not a race in which French teams and drivers have had as much success as we would have wished over the past few decades, although this is something that we very much hope to correct this weekend..."

The second of the Spirit of Le Mans awards was given to Christian Moity, a French journalist who has covered the 24-hour race every year since 1949, the year of nits reawakening after the Second World War. Since 1978, he has edited the race's annual publication.
