Liuzzi interested in Le Mans drive

Force India test driver Vitantonio Liuzzi says he is keen to race in other categories due to the lack of testing opportunities in Formula One this year, and is looking for a drive in the Le Mans 24 Hours

The Italian is staying on as Force India's reserve for a second season, but with testing between world championship rounds now banned and winter mileage severely restricted under the latest cost-cutting rules, he is unlikely to get many outings.

Liuzzi is already competing in the Speedcar Series during the winter, and wants to find other opportunities for the rest of the season - with Le Mans among his main targets. The famous endurance race does not clash with an F1 grand prix this year.

"Of course I will try to have a look round to try and keep racing without taking my focus away from F1, as this is for sure my main thing," Liuzzi said.

"I want to keep my racing experience going and that's why I am looking at projects such as the Le Mans 24 Hours. The plan is still fluid for now, but for sure I will try many categories that can keep me racing at a top level."

Despite the reduction in testing, he believes that there will still be enough opportunities for him to get involved with Force India's programme.

"I will test the second car at a shakedown just before Melbourne at Silverstone," said Liuzzi.

"It's not going to be a long test, but it will be important work to get it right for the first race. I'm really excited about it.

"After that we have some aero tests planned and I hope I can help with these."
