Katherine Legge to test DeltaWing next week
Former DTM driver Katherine Legge will test the DeltaWing experimental prototype next week
The Briton, who raced for Audi in the DTM in 2008-10, has been brought in by the DeltaWing Racing Cars squad for a try-out over two days of testing on Sunday and Wednesday at the team's home track of Road Atlanta.
She will share the car over the two days with former Panoz and Chevrolet American Le Mans Series driver Johnny O'Connell, who has tested the DeltaWing in both its Nissan and latest Elan/Mazda-powered iterations.
Legge, who has undertaken partial IndyCar campaigns over the past two seasons, said: "This is completely different to anything else out there and definitely different to anything I've ever driven."
Asked about her chances of racing the car in the ALMS over the course of the seasons, she said: "We don't really know yet. First of all, I have to prove myself in the car.
"Nobody knows what I can do in this car and the sportscar paddock doesn't really know me, or what I'm capable of."
Legge's only sportscar start came at the wheel of a Daytona Prototype in the 2007 Daytona 24 Hours.
The DeltaWing will be raced on its next scheduled outing at Laguna Seca next month by Olivier Pla and Andy Meyrick, who drove on the debut of the revised car in the Sebring ALMS season opener in March.
The team has stated that it also expects to use other drivers over the course the season.
Plans to race a coupe version of the car at Laguna have been set back to an unspecified point later in the season.
