Johnny Herbert says he is open to offers to return to the Le Mans 24 Hours

Herbert wants Le Mans return

The former Formula 1 driver won Le Mans with Mazda in 1991, and contested the race several times after his F1 career ended. But he has not participated in the legendary French event since his 2007 outing with Aston Martin's GT1 team.

"I'd like to go back to Le Mans for sure," said Herbert on stage at AUTOSPORT International. "Everyone thinks I'm very expensive for some reason - I'm not, so please come and talk to me!

"I still love the challenge of Le Mans. I've always enjoyed it when I've gone back, obviously after Formula 1 with Audi, with Bentley and latterly with Aston Martin."

He regards Le Mans as one of the premier events outside the world championship, and wants to get a drive in the top LMP1 division if he returns.

"The challenge is one of the best, it's still a race that's very important in the motosport world, and I'd still love to go back," said Herbert. "If I could get an opportunity to get into a sportscar, LMP1, I'd like to.

"It would be good to get back because it's one of the big challenges still left outside Formula 1, and I'd enjoy it."

Herbert's immediate plan for this season is to remain in the British Touring Car Championship, having joined the series with Team Dynamics in the middle of 2009. He is working on 2010 options but has not completed a deal yet.
