Former F1 driver Christian Klien stays with Morand for ELMS season

The Austrian, who finished third in the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours with Peugeot, has signed up for the five-race series after contesting the final two rounds in 2013.

He will share the Morand Morgan-Judd/BMW LMP2 with Swiss driver Gary Hirsch, who is moving up to P2 after winning the LMPC one-make prototype class in the ELMS last season, and a third driver likely to be announced next month.

Team boss Benoit Morand said: "Considering the job we made together in the last rounds of the 2013 ELMS, we wanted to extend our collaboration with Christian.

"Having Gary has always been a top priority: with him we can maintain the Swiss identity of Morand Racing and we are sure that this driving pair will be competitive."

Klien added: "Finishing second in the final race of 2013 [at Paul Ricard with Natacha Gachnang] was a good way to end the season and we want to carry on this year.

"I definitely think we can fight for race wins and for the title this year.'

Morand also intends to file an entry for the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Why BMW shouldn't be overlooked on its return to prototypes

OPINION: While the focus has been on the exciting prospect of Ferrari vs Porsche at the Le Mans 24 Hours next year, BMW’s factory return to endurance racing should not be ignored. It won't be at the French classic next year as it focuses efforts on the IMSA SportsCar Championship, but could be a dark horse in 2024 when it returns to La Sarthe with the crack WRT squad
