Ford WEC team keeps Tincknell for rest of 2016 GT campaign

Harry Tincknell has been retained by the Ford World Endurance Championship squad for the remainder of the season

The Briton was originally signed by the US manufacturer for the opening three races to drive for Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK alongside Andy Priaulx and Marino Franchitti, but will now be available for the final six races.

Tincknell has been confirmed alongside Priaulx and Franchitti in the #67 GTE Pro class Ford GT at the next round of the WEC at the Nurburgring on July 24 and is likely to undertake further races in the car.

George Howard-Chappell, team principal of the British-based WEC Ford squad, told Autosport: "Ford likes Harry because he's bloody quick and a good guy, so it wanted to keep him on the books.

"We'll definitely run him at the 'Ring and probably some races afterwards, but exactly what we do with him for the rest of the season hasn't been decided."

Tincknell has been given clearance by Nissan, to whom he remains under contract after racing for its LMP1 squad last year, to undertake further races for Ford.

He is also contesting the European Le Mans Series with the Jota-run G-Drive Racing team aboard a LMP2 Gibson-Nissan 015S shared with Giedo van der Garde and Simon Dolan.

Howard-Chappell said there were no plans at the moment for a third driver to join WEC GT points leaders Stefan Mucke and Olivier Pla in the #66 car, but didn't rule it out for the future.
