Five More Cars from 2007

Five more cars will race at the Le Mans 24 Hours from 2007 thanks to a rebuilding of the paddock and pit facilities at the track

Le Mans organisers ACO have announced a 15 million Euros overhaul of the site. The overhaul will increase the number of pit garages from 50 to 55, increasing the race capacity for the organisers.

The work will also include changes aimed at increasing the safety of the track, by tightening the Dunlop Curve and extending the run-off area at the Tertre Rouge.

"More cars means more attraction, and more attraction means more spectators and more interest in the race," said Roland Du Luart, president of the syndicate that owns the track.

The majority of the work will be completed by 2006, will the full pits in operation by 2007.

Spectators will also benefit from improved walkways and viewing areas around a new restaurant area with the aim of removing overcrowding from current 'blackspots'.

Access will be improved by a tram link direct to the circuit from the middle of Le Mans, funded by the local authorities.
