Ex-Toyota LMP1 racer Nicolas Lapierre back to WEC with KCMG

Former factory Toyota World Endurance Championship racer Nicolas Lapierre will return to the field in KCMG's LMP2 car for the Spa round and Le Mans 24 Hours

Lapierre began the 2014 WEC season alongside eventual champions Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi at Toyota but was dropped from the car after the Austin round.

He has been retained by Toyota in a reserve role and will fill the vacancy at KCMG when its other recent 2015 signing Nick Tandy returns to his Porsche LMP1 role for Spa and Le Mans.

Lapierre will make his first appearance alongside team-mates Matt Howson and Richard Bradley in KCMG's ORECA-Nissan 05 in this weekend's WEC 'prologue' test at Paul Ricard.

"I am really keen to get back to racing again and the prologue will be a good opportunity to become familiar with the ORECA 05, which is a very promising car," he said.

"I'm motivated and ready to contribute to KCMG's Le Mans challenge this year."

KCMG team manager Erich Kolb said the deal with Lapierre was the culmination of "weeks of talks" with Toyota.

"Without a doubt, Nicolas is one of the most talented drivers in WEC, and KCMG would like to extend its gratitude to Toyota Racing for allowing him to represent us in three of WEC's events this season," he said.
