Dumas walks away from huge crash

The French driver crashed the No.16 factory car heavily after he spun on oil dropped by Terry Borcheller's Team Modena Aston Martin.

The session was stopped for 50 minutes to recover the car and clean the track, and a bewildered Dumas walked along the track to make his way back to the pitlane.

"At first I didn't know what happened, I thought maybe something broke on the car," said the 30-year-old. "But when I looked at the track afterwards I could see the oil.

"It happened between the two lefts in the Porsche Curves. I was nearly straight, but the car just spun. Then I hit the barriers twice, once with the front of the car, and once at the rear."

Pescarolo are unsure of the extent of the damage to the car at the moment, but it was the fastest of the petrol-powered LMP1 cars at the time of the accident.

"I don't know how bad it is, but it doesn't look good," Dumas added. "The impact was very big.

"I'm not sure how long before I crashed that the oil was there, but there were no flags from the marshals so maybe it wasn't long. (Joao) Barbosa was behind me, and he said that he only knew there was a problem because he saw me spin."

Shortly after the session restarted, the sister Pescarolo of Benoit Treluyer stopped at the end of the pitlane and was pushed back to its garage, completing a miserable session for the French team.
