Bruno Senna signs up for WEC LMP2 campaign with Morand-run team
Ex-Formula 1 racer Bruno Senna and Audi factory driver Filipe Albuquerque will join a new Mexican LMP2 entry to be run by the Morand team in the World Endurance Championship
The Swiss team, which ran a Morgan under the Team SARD Morand banner last season, has joined forces with former WEC P2 champion Ricardo Gonzalez to field a Ligier-Nissan JSP2 under the RGR Sport by Morand banner for the Mexican driver, Senna and Albuquerque.
Gonzalez, who raced for the OAK-run G-Drive team in the WEC last season, said: "I'm very excited to finally be able to announce this project, which has been in the works for quite a while.
"After the WEC announced that we would have the 6 Hours of Mexico in 2016, starting our own Mexican team was the obvious next choice.
"I really do believe that we've put together a dream team: with the experience of Bruno and Filipe, and proven speed of the Ligier JSP2, I have no doubt that we'll be able to fight for the championship and victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours."
McLaren GT and Mahindra Formula E driver Senna, who will be racing a prototype for the first time since 2009, explained that the drive represented a "fantastic opportunity" and that he "expected to challenge for wins".
Albuquerque, who contested the European Le Mans Series with the Jota Sport team in 2014-15 in addition to driving for Audi at Le Mans, said: "After doing two consecutive years in the ELMS, definitely the WEC was my main goal for 2016.
"With each of our experience, I think we make a good and balanced team."
RGR Sport by Morand's WEC participation is subject to confirmation ahead of the announcement of the WEC entry list on Friday.
