Aston Martin moves Frederic Makowiecki in WEC reshuffle

Frederic Makowiecki will team up with Aston Martin title challengers Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke for this month's Fuji round of the World Endurance Championship

Aston Martin Racing has reshuffled its driver line-up for round six of the WEC on October 20 after downscaling its assault from five to four cars for the remainder of the season.

Makowiecki, who won the GTE Pro class at the previous round of the WEC at Austin with Bruno Senna, has been moved into the #97 Vantage GTE courtesy of his development role with AMR tyre supplier Michelin.

AMR team principal John Gaw said: "Last year, Fuji was Aston's weakest circuit because we struggled to get the peak out of the tyres. We're hoping that Fred's experience is going to help us."

Senna has been moved over to one of AMR's GTE Am squad to take the place of Nicki Thiim, who is racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup event at Hockenheim.

Gaw explained that AMR was motivated to push for both the GTE Pro and Am titles and wanted to give the #95 car, which Senna will share with Christoffer Nygaard and Kristian Poulsen, a boost.

The second AMR Pro entry will be raced by Richie Stanaway and Pedro Lamy.

Canadian Paul Dalla Lana will not be racing, according to Gaw, because he is "unhappy with the championship organisationally, technically and commercially".

A rule change in GTE Am means that the #96 car will have to be driven by three drivers.

Rival teams pushed for a change after the entry was raced by just two drivers, Jamie Campbell-Walter and Stuart Hall, in the absence of car owner Roald Goethe at the two previous WEC rounds.

British GT frontrunner and AMR test and reserve driver Jonny Adam will share with Campbell-Walter and Hall prior to Goethe's expected return for the final two WEC rounds.

Blancpain Endurance Series regular Markus Palttala has been brought into the Imsa Performance Porsche line-up to meet the same rule.
