Albuqeurque gets United Autosports Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 seat

Former Audi LMP1 driver Filipe Albuquerque has been retained by the Anglo-American United Autosports squad for its maiden Le Mans 24 Hours assault in June

The Portuguese made a winning start to his European Le Mans Series campaign in the team's Ligier-Gibson JSP217 at Silverstone last month and has now been confirmed by United for the double-points World Endurance Championship round on June 17/18.

Albuquerque will share the LMP2 Ligier with regular ELMS team-mates Hugo de Sadeleer, a race winner in last year's Formula Renault Eurocup, and Pro Mazda graduate Will Owen.

Team boss Richard Dean said: "We had a great start to our debut ELMS LMP2 campaign at Silverstone, so I really wanted to keep the three drivers together for Le Mans.

"We wanted to go into it with the strongest line-up we could and I think that's what we have achieved here."

Albuquerque added: "I am really happy to race again this year at Le Mans - it's a very special race that every racing driver wants to take part in."

The 31-year-old, who parted company with Audi at the end of last year, has contested Le Mans on three previous occasions.

He raced for Audi in LMP1 in 2014-15 and drove for the RGR Sport Ligier squad in last year's event as part of a full-season WEC campaign that yielded second place in the LMP2 points.
