W Series moves five-day pre-season test to Anglesey

The W Series has confirmed it will host a five-day test at Anglesey in May after electing to abandon its pre-season plans for an outing at Valencia next month.

W Series moves five-day pre-season test to Anglesey

In January the championship announced it intended to conduct a five-day pre-season test for all of its drivers at Spain’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo from 26-30 April.

However, the continued effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the various travel restrictions in place, have forced organisers to make a change and hold the test in the UK instead.

At this stage all drivers are set to attend the test at the picturesque Welsh circuit, which has been pushed back to 17-21 May, just over a month before its 2021 season opener.

A spokesperson from the W Series confirmed to Autosport that the change to the series’ pre-season testing plans was purely down to logistics given the coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, the series remains in constant dialogue with Formula 1 and the FIA regarding the 2021 season that will see the championship on the undercard at eight F1 events.

After sitting out 2020 due to pandemic, the series is currently scheduled to end its hiatus with its opening round set to take place at the French Grand Prix on 24-26 June.
