Isle of Man TT: Rider taken to hospital after course car collision
A rider in the Isle of Man TT has been airlifted to hospital after being involved in a collision with a course car at the Ballacrye section
The practice session for Superbike/Superstock/Supersport machinery was red flagged after 10 minutes.
The first session, which was the Superbike/Superstock/Supersport practice, got underway at 6.19pm local time, but was red-flagged at 6.30pm due to an incident at the Churchtown section of track.
A resulting fire to a nearby tree from the incident forced a full-course red flag to allow the fire brigade onto circuit to attend to the blaze, while race officials dealt with the incident.
Following this, another occurred involving a course car that was attending the initial incident on track.
Ballacrye is at mile 17 on the TT's mountain course, with Churchtown a few miles down the track towards Ramsey.
A statement issued on behalf of ACU Events Ltd read: "TT Race organisers ACU Events Ltd can confirm that a rider was involved in a collision with a course car at Ballacrye during this evening's qualifying session at the Isle of Man TT Races.
"The rider has been taken by airmed to Nobles Hospital.
"This followed an earlier incident during the Superbike session at Churchtown, which the course car was attending."
No information on the Churchtown incident other than the resulting fire caused by it has been given.
Tonight's schedule included Superbike, Superstock, Supersport, Sidecars and a lap of running for the electric TT Zero bikes but all of Wednesday night's remaining running was called off.
Silicone Engineering rider Dean Harrison had dipped into the 16-minute bracket on his Kawasaki Superbike on Tuesday with a lap of 16m57.728s at 133.462mph.
Harrison was once again set for a blistering opening gambit on his ZX-10R at the start of Wednesday's running as he headed the field through the timing beams at Ramsey before the session was halted.
Smiths Racing BMW's Peter Hickman led the Supertock timesheets ahead of Wednesday with a 17m19.882s lap at 130.619mph, while Michael Dunlop was top of the Supersport times on his MD Racing Honda with a 18m04.840s lap at 125.206mph.
Thursday's practice schedule is a packed one, with 55 minutes of Superbikes, Supersport, Superstock running opening up the evening, followed by a Supersport/Lightweight session, with Sidecars and a lap for the TT Zero machines rounding out the action.
