No driver scored more midfield points after the summer break than Perez, impressive given the Racing Point improved but not to the point where it was ever the class of the midfield or better than a marginal Q3 car. But he was also strong in the first half of the season, turning in outstanding drives in China and Azerbaijan to keep Racing Point on the scoreboard. This was a typical Perez season.
He comprehensively outperformed Lance Stroll in qualifying with an average advantage of not far off a tenth and a half, but it was on Sundays that he excelled. Mexico and Abu Dhabi were his finest drives late on as he emerged as the second-best performer in the midfield.
