Winterbottom takes Island race two

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom led from start to finish to win race two of the L&H 500 at Phillip Island

Winterbottom made the most of his qualifying effort and the team's strategy to pit in race one to take a comfortable win ahead of Fabian Coulthard and secure pole position for tomorrow's race for the FPR duo.

Fujitsu Racing's Jason Bright moved steadily up the order to finish just behind Coulthard, with James Courtney making up for Steven Johnson's disappointment in race one to finish fourth, David Besnard completing the top five in the Garry Rogers Commodore.

Rick Kelly looked well-placed to finish the best of the drivers having to pit in the second race and therefore a good starting position for Sunday, but just as he was getting ready to pit, ballast under the car dragged along the ground, sending up sparks and forcing them to pit for repairs.

Despite finishing three laps down in last place, the Kellys will still start tomorrow's race from sixth position.

The best of those who did pit were Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander in 19th and 20th positions, Whincup moving ahead during the pitstops, these two with their respective co-drivers starting from second and third in the 500.
