Winterbottom scores Winton pole

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom has taken pole position for the first race of this weekend's racing at Winton Motor Raceway

Winterbottom was only sixth-fastest in qualifying but jumped to the top of the times in the shootout and stayed there, just ahead of Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander and Team Vodafone's Craig Lowndes.

Alongside Lowndes on row two will be his team-mate Jamie Whincup, with Fabian Coulthard in fifth position. Completing the top ten runners are Michael Caruso, James Courtney, Lee Holdsworth, Todd Kelly and Steven Richards who was second-fastest in qualifying but dropped to tenth in the shooutout.

Just outside the top ten in 11th was Rick Kelly in the second Jack Daniels car, with Courtney's team-mate Steven Johnson in 13th and Russell Ingall 14th. After setting the fastest time in leg one, Paul Dumbrell failed to make it past leg two after setting the 16th fastest time.

However he will be starting ahead of the second Holden Racing Team car of Will Davison who will start 22nd, as well as Shane van Gisbergen who had a big off in the first leg and managed to get back on track but couldn't go faster than 27th.
