Winterbottom holds on in race two

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom won the second race of the Sprint Gas V8 Supercar Manufacturers Challenge at Albert Park

For the second time in two races, a great start jumped Winterbottom from third to first by turn one. Unlike race one, there were no mistakes, and despite a late safety car for a tyre bundle on the track and a closing Will Davison, he held on to take the victory just ahead of the Holden Racing Team driver.

After running away with race one, a poor start dropped Team Vodafone's Craig Lowndes to third, and despite staying on Davison's tail for most of the race, he was unable to improve his position, falling into the clutches of Steven Johnson in the closing laps who finished in fourth.

Johnson had already come into close contact with the other Team Vodafone car of Jamie Whincup just after the restart, pushing Whincup onto the grass as they exited turn two overlapping, Whincup almost if not grazing the concrete wall.

Whincup lost ground but recovered back to sixth by the finish having started ninth, somehow avoiding spinning or being spun in front of the rest of the field as he returned to the racing surface after the contact from Johnson.

After dramas in race one, both Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander and Super Cheap Auto's Russell Ingall stormed through the field in race two. Tander started 25th and raced up to 13th, while Ingall started two places further back and finished a place ahead in 12th.

Todd Kelly also made a strong recovery after dropping back to 28th on lap one after he was hit from behind and spun by Cameron McConville.

Kelly was up to 20th by the time the safety car came out, and then gained another five places in the three laps after it left the track.
