Todd Kelly takes pole at Winton
Holden Racing Team's Todd Kelly has taken pole position for this weekend's racing at Winton Motor Raceway
Kelly just edged out Garth Tander by 0.05 of a second, despite two late attempts by the Toll HSV Dealer Team driver on a cold track.
Tasman Motorsport's Jason Richards was third fastest, with Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom next. Winterbottom's Ford is the only Ford in the top nine places on the grid.
Next up was one of the surprises of qualifying, Jack Daniel's Racing's rookie Shane Price. The team had a superb qualifying, rookie teammate Jack Perkins qualifying tenth, his previous best being 25th.
Both Garry Rogers' cars made the top ten, Lee Holdsworth in sixth and Dean Canto in ninth. Championship leader Rick Kelly qualified seventh.
With these drivers having done so well, other drivers were unable to make the top ten. Craig Lowndes in 11th, Mark Skaife in 16th, Steven Richards in 17th, Adelaide pole man James Courtney in 18th and best-placed Ford in the championship Jamie Whincup in 20th were among those usually at the front not to make the top ten.
Worst news of all was for Russell Ingall, 24th fastest before being sent to the rear of the grid for missing the scales during qualifying.
