Tander takes pole for race one

Garth Tander bagged pole position for the Gold Coast 600 at Surfers Paradise with a brilliant lap in the shootout

The HRT driver recovered from locking up and running wide at Turn 3 to produce a stunning end to the lap. His time of 1m12.6841s denied points leader James Courtney a precious pole by 0.1 second.

Third on the grid is Paul Dumbrell, who is partnered this weekend by 1997 Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve. Mark Winterbottom, who is set the pace for most of the weekend around the tight street circuit, was fourth fastest.

Lee Holdsworth, quickest in the pre-shootout session was fifth, while Craig Lowndes, who has multiple World Touring Car champion Andy Priualx alongside him, took sixth.
