Race 2: Ambrose Makes it Two

Defending V8 Supercar champion Marcos Ambrose drove a repeat of his race one drive to win race two of the Clipsal Adelaide 500 held on the shortened version of the former Adelaide F1 street circuit

Ambrose again led for the majority of the race, only losing the lead during pitstop cycles. It was Ambrose's second consecutive overall victory in the streets of Adelaide, having won both races at the event last year.

A possible team 1-2 for Stone Brothers Racing disappeared when Russell Ingall went off track from second position with only a handful of laps to go. The excursion was attributed to a gearbox that kept jumping out of second gear forcing him to hold the car in gear through most of the circuit's thirteen corners.

This moved Craig Lowndes into second position in a stirring drive, climbing from the rear of the field, after a first corner clash with Steven Richards spun Lowndes gently into the wall. It was Lowndes' first series drive for British owned outfit Triple 8 Race Engineering.

The Holden Racing Team made an excellent recovery after Saturday's dramas, with Mark Skaife third ahead of teammate Todd Kelly. Like Lowndes, Skaife came from the rear of the field, as did Kelly, who was forced to overcome two black flags for a pitlane infringement and for causing an incident with Brazilian Max Wilson in the early running.

Paul Dumbrell took a career best fifth place ahead of Cameron McConville and Wilson.

The ever present Adelaide walls extracted their toll again, with Garth Tander hitting the wall hard in the fearsome turn 8 after a touch with Simon Wills. Jason Richards also suffered heavy damage after clipping Greg Ritter's Falcon in turn 11 just after Ritter himself had crashed into the turn 11 barriers.

Ambrose takes a perfect 192 points into the second round at New Zealand's Pukekohe Park ahead of Craig Lowndes on 183 points, with Todd Kelly the first of the Holdens on 162 points ahead of Steven Johnson and Paul Weel, equal on 141 points.
