Murphy takes Surfers pole
Greg Murphy has bounced back from his late-race crash at Bathurst to set the fastest time in qualifying for this weekend's V8 Supercar round at Surfers Paradise
Murphy led a Holden assault at the top of the times, with Holden Racing Team teammates Todd Kelly and Mark Skaife completing the top three. Meanwhile series champion Marcos Ambrose, his car repaired from the incident with Murphy at Bathurst, was the fastest Ford in fourth just ahead of Steven Richards in his Holden.
The biggest loser from qualifying to the shootout was Jason Richards, who fell from second to tenth after leaky power steering thwarted his hot lap.
Dean Canto, replacing Andrew Jones at Garry Rogers Motorsport after Jones parted company with the team this week, qualified 25th, while his teammate Cameron McConville will start from ninth, two places behind points leader Russell Ingall.
It has also been announced that Steven Ellery, who qualified eighth, two places behind teammate Craig Lowndes, will not be driving for Triple Eight in 2006, while Orrcon Racing duo Jason Bargwanna and Mark Winterbottom have both been confirmed at Orrcon into 2006 and beyond.
