Mark Winterbottom takes Townsville V8 Supercars pole

Winterbottom and Reynolds had topped the initial qualifying session, which decided who would reach the one-lap top-10 shoot-out and set the field from 11th place back. They then repeated that result in the pole session, with Winterbottom delivering a 1m12.9887s to beat Reynolds by 0.0245 seconds.

Championship leader Jamie Whincup and team-mate Craig Lowndes form an all-Triple Eight Holden second row.

Owner/driver Tony D'Alberto put his Ford in a very strong fifth place, while Dick Johnson Racing also produced an excellent result by getting all three of its Fords in the top 10. Steve Owen, James Moffat and Steven Johnson will start sixth, eighth and ninth respectively.

Title contender Will Davison had to settle for seventh in the third FPR car after clipping the wall. Garth Tander also made an error on his shoot-out run, locking up heavily and leaving himself 10th - although that still puts him 13 places ahead of struggling Holden Racing Team team-mate James Courtney.

After lapping rapidly in practice, Tekno's Michael Patrizi missed out on a shoot-out place by 0.0123s and starts 11th. Stone Brothers Ford duo Shane van Gisbergen and Lee Holdsworth also missed the cut and had to settle for 12th and 14th.

Ex-Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve will start last on the grid as he stands in for Greg Murphy at Kelly Racing.
