Alex Davison takes maiden pole

Irwin Racing's Alex Davison took the first pole position of his V8 Supercar career by millimetres for the second race of the Skycity Triple Crown at Hidden Valley, taking the top spot on the grid by two ten-thousandths of a second

Davison just edged out reigning series champion Jamie Whincup who will start on the front row again, with yesterday's pole man Mark Winterbottom just a hundredth of a second behind the leading duo in third.

Kelly brothers Todd and Rick sandwich the points leader James Courtney in fourth and sixth on the grid. Craig Lowndes, Lee Holdsworth, Steven Johnson and Shane van Gisbergen complete the top ten.

The two Holden Racing Team cars of Will Davison and Garth Tander sit just outside the top ten in 11th and 12th, two places ahead of Tim Slade who starred in Saturday's session.

After setting the fastest time in qualifying before the shootout on Saturday, Jason Richards could not repeat it today and will lineup 21st on the grid, just ahead of namesake and fellow New Zealander (but no relation) Steven Richards.
