Review: 2017 World Rally Championship DVD

The highlights of the 2017 World Rally Championship season will give future WRC fans an incredible insight into the championship

Review news, analysis and Stats - Autosport

The season review starts by setting the scene strongly. It introduces the WRC field, the new aggressively-styled cars and what challenges the drivers will face in the year ahead. The in-depth explanations continue throughout the review, giving fans a real behind-the-scenes view into the championship.

It's not just about the action - stories such as Sebastien Ogier 2018 contract negotiations and what upcoming drivers were looking for a full-time seat are also covered, which allows fans to understand the wider context of the season.

The in-depth nature of the review, as well as the action-packed season it covers, means it's fast-paced and, unless already the viewer is already familiar with the WRC, it can - at times - be difficult to keep up.

For each rally, only the best bits of each stage are included and, though the narration does a good job of covering what occurred, this stop-start approach means it's easy to miss the occasional important moment - sometimes wondering why a driver has lost so much time on a stage.

But best thing about the review is that it makes it easy to see just how much each driver cares about the WRC, with interviews - conducted straight after stages and once they have had time to reflect on their drives - getting across the emotion, energy and effort they put in.

Including these interviews, as well as the intercom messages between driver and co-driver during the stages, helps the viewer connect with the drivers and the drama that unfolds on the snow, mud, and gravel.
