Porto FC have signed former Macau Grand Prix winner Tristan Gommendy to race their Superleague Formula car.
The Frenchman, who won at Macau in 2002 and has also raced in Champ Cars and the World Series by Renault, has been confirmed as the Portuguese side's driver for the season which begins at Donington Park next weekend.
Gommendy was encouraged by the 750bhp V12 Superleague car following a test at Vallelunga and will sample the Porto car again on Thursday at Donington.
"I'm really looking forward to competing, especially after trying the car at Vallelunga," he said. "I really enjoyed competing with high horsepower cars in Champ Car and the Superleague car should be every bit as fast, and it sounds a lot better.
"It's great to be competing back in Europe again and I'm looking forward to have some of my family and friends come and cheer on FC Porto
The club's president, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, added:"We are delighted to welcome Tristan to the FC Porto family and all our supporters are eagerly awaiting the chance to see him aboard our car.
"Our fans have been very supportive of the Superleague concept and it was very important for us to get a talented and experienced driver behind the wheel."
