Italian driver Andrea Mame has died after an accident in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race at Paul Ricard this morning.
Mame was involved in a crash with four competitors at the start of the race.
All five drivers were taken to the medical centre for assessment. Organisers said Mame sustained serious injuries to which he later succumbed.
Mame was 41.
"On behalf of Automobili Lamborghini president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann expressed his personal sadness and extended the condolences of all the company to Andrea's family and team," said organisers in a statement.
"Automobili Lamborghini will be working with the circuit authorities and SRO to investigate the accident thoroughly in all its aspects."
Mame was born in Milan and was the chairman and CEO of the Mame Group he founded in 2009.
A further update on their condition of the other drivers will be issued in due time.
