Montoya penalised for Busch incident

Juan Pablo Montoya was penalized two laps by NASCAR officials for an incident involving him and Kyle Busch during the final caution period of the race at New Hampshire

The Colombian retaliated against Busch after the points leader steered into him on the frontstretch when the yellow flags came out for the last time for an incident involving Clint Bowyer and Sam Hornish Jr.

Montoya tapped the right rear of Busch's car sending him into a spin but was then clipped by his rival and ended up spinning as well. Although the Ganassi driver had finished the race in 25th right behind Busch, officials decided to penalize him two laps, which meant he was classified 32nd.

"He hit me under caution, he hit me under green and I retaliated," Montoya said after being assessed with the penalty by NASCAR for rough driving. "Did I go too far in retaliating? Yeah.

"I think they are giving me a penalty and it's OK for what I did. The only thing I told them was that they are always saying be very careful not to do anything under caution. The only reason I did that was that I was just defending myself."

Busch accused Montoya of running him up the track earlier under green but also admitted to have hit the door of the Colombian's car just after the caution came out for the final time, while they were racing for a top-15 finish.

"I got a run on him earlier and I got on the outside and he kind of kept coming up a little bit," said Busch. "I didn't turn down into him and just barely touched his quarter-panel. Then I got by him in three and four and he run me up the racetrack in the left rear.

"Then we came to that caution flag and he thought he beat me to the caution flag and I was just trying to get around the 40 (Dario Franchitti) car, who was in front of us there and touched him on the door and he just turned left and spun me down the front straightaway.

"I don't know what his beef is, but obviously NASCAR should probably fix it."

Kyle Busch was initially running the same strategy as his brother Kurt, who eventually won the race. However he stopped again and was penalized for entering the pitroad while it was closed, finishing 24th but holding on to the points lead.
