Aleshin to replace Ammermuller
World Series by Renault front-runner Mikhail Aleshin will stand in for the injured Michael Ammermuller at ART Grand Prix this weekend
Ammermuller had hoped to be fit for the race, but he is still recovering from the wrist injury that he sustained in the opening race of the season in Bahrain.
The German had surgery on the injury last month, but Dr. Andreas Priol admitted that it was going to be a tall order to be ready for the races at Barcelona this weekend.
"We had no complications, the operation went according to plan," he said. "But the healing of a fracture like that is difficult and can last up to 12 weeks."
Doctors used a special titanium screw rather than a cast in a bid to speed up the recovery process, but reigning champions ART have had to take the decision to replace Ammermuller.
Fellow Red Bull-supported driver Aleshin is currently fourth in the World Series by Renault standings, and the Russian driver currently has one victory to his name this season with Carlin Motorsport.
