F1 Racing Podcast: How Verstappen recovered from hitting rock bottom

As the latest F1 Racing magazine hits the shelves ahead of the Russian Grand Prix, the Flat Chat with Codders podcast delves into one of Formula 1's hottest properties

F1 Racing editor Ben Anderson and columnist Mark Gallagher join host Stuart Codling to explore the rise and rise of Max Verstappen.

Once a blindingly fast but occasionally flawed prodigy, he's now a veteran of nearly 100 grand prix starts - and has developed a maturity to match his remarkable speed.

The 2019 drivers' championship might be out of reach now, but Verstappen seems to be patiently building towards a concerted title challenge soon.

He's banished the impetuousness that used to mar his driving, he's established himself as the undisputed leader of the Red Bull Racing team, and perhaps most significantly he's gently getting the best out of engine partner Honda.

An exclusive interview with Verstappen is the basis of F1 Racing's cover feature this month.

In it, he speaks candidly about how he "hit the bottom" in career terms at the Monaco Grand Prix last season, and how he's had to reset his outlook and technique to maximise his natural talent.

Robert Kubica has ruled himself out of a Williams drive next season and our panel of experts ponders whether he will remain in F1 at all.

In an exclusive interview in this month's F1 Racing, he says F1 continues to be his dream, and that's he's proved the physical after-effects of his rallying injury haven't affected his ability to drive an F1 car.

As Daniel Ricciardo prepares to face down former advisor Glenn Beavis in court in a £10million dispute, Mark Gallagher describes how drivers and managers often create their own difficulties by failing to establish clarity about their relationship.

Whether a watch is a gift or simply a payment in lieu of commission on a deal is a detail that matters at this level...

And as F1 admits to interest from potential new entrants - and FIA president Jean Todt says he's yet to see anyone "solid" - 'Codders' asks if there really are any credible new teams out there and whether F1 needs them anyway.
